Orienteering - The adventure sport for all! Come and try our NEW permanent woodland course!
Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport that exercises both the mind and body. The aim is to navigate between a sequence of control points marked on a map. Use your judgement to find the best route to complete the course in the quickest time.
Our NEW permanent course is open all year round and is the perfect introduction to this competitive sport!
There is no need to book in advance, the course is open all daylight hours that the centre is open. Just turn up and our friendly reception team will get you checked in and briefly explain how to orienteer. Head out in small teams, individuals or pairs and compete for the best time! Remember, it is not always who runs fastest that gets back first, accurate navigation is key!
Once you have returned punch in to the final control either with your scorecard or smartphone and head up to the Alpine Lounge for some well earned refreshments. Alternatively, head back out onto the course again and try and beat your previous time - you can compete as many times as you like in one day at no extra cost!
The course is set amongst our hilly, woodland area. Please dress appropriately with sturdy footwear. It gets VERY muddy if it has been raining so do be very careful.
The course is suitable for all ages. Children under the age of 16 may attempt the course unsupervised at their parent/guardians discretion.
You can mark your way around the course either by pin punch or using a smartphone. If you wish to use your phone, you will need to download the iOrienteering QR code app (free). Your phone will need internet access (3G, 4G) whilst on the course to record your time.
