Outdoor adventure for schools, colleges, universities and apprentices
For more than 30 years we have been working with schools to deliver high quality outdoor education. Our hard earned reputation has been built on the delivery of bespoke multi-activity residentials and learning outside the classroom, delivering long lasting benefits for both the students and the school.
Mendip has grown into one of the biggest outdoor activity providers in the South West, with a 250 acre activity centre, 86 bed residential centre, two tented villages with accommodation for over 200, an Alpine inspired snowsport park with rooftop cafe-bar, a watersport venue and a rock sport quarry.
Our experienced team of friendly programme planners and qualified, enthusiastic instructors are the best in the industry and our mix of over 25 adventurous outdoor activities cannot be rivalled.
A multi-activity outdoor programme is much more than a school trip - it teaches children to face challenges, push their limits and to rely on and respect each other. All our activities are designed to educate outside the classroom and inspire children to try more, do more and achieve more - regardless of academic or physical ability.
We can provide a diverse and exciting range of adventurous outdoor activities and unique learning environments within our 250 acre woodland site and water sport venue.
- Archery Active

Our instructors are the best in the industry, all fully qualified, experienced and enthusiastic. They are all enhanced DBS checked, first aid trained and passionate about what they do.
We are one of the biggest and most respected outdoor activity providers in the South West, backed by the Activities Industry Mutual (£5million PL and £10million EL) and inspected and approved by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority and the institute for Outdoor Learning. We are proud of our quality badge for Learning Outside the Classroom and approved by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
We pride ourselves on listening to you, your requirements, your budget, your timetable and your learning objectives. Every school is different and so are our packages...
COVID secure activities in schoolWe appreciate everything has changed in schools. Social distancing, class bubbles, staffing challenges and severe restrictions on school trips are making this 'new normal' a real challenge for everyone, especially the children.
We can come to you and put the adventure back into outdoor learning. Get them excited and fired up - ready to re-engage with education.
We have an exciting range of Covid secure activities, and our instructors can come to you and work within your school bubbles to deliver an action packed day of outdoor education.
We can bring our mobile archery, axe throwing or Archery Active ranges; mobile frisbee golf course, orienteering kits; deliver hands on bush-craft sessions or engaging physical team building sessions.
All of our activities have been fully risk assessed and comply with all current government guidance.
Send our team an email or message us below to discuss your ideas. We can build a unique programme to meet your space and needs.
Activity daysMendip Outdoor Pursuits have over 30 years experience working with schools. Whether you're looking for a day outdoors to cover specific areas of the national curriculum, want to bond together a new year group, or just want a fun treat for your class, we have the perfect activity packages for you.
Curriculum linked activity days
Curriculum linked activity days bring your lessons to life! Our local River Yeo canoeing sessions give children the experience of being at eye level with local geographic features; they will experience first-hand the wild-life on the river and have an amazing time doing so under our expert instruction. Combine a river trip with a caving session at Goat Church Cavern in Burrington Combe to embed topics such as water courses, the water-cycle or erosion.
Caving brings geography and geology to life
Caving down our very own Mineral Mine at Sandford Levy gives children the experience of what it was like working in our 450 metre long miners tunnel that extends deep under Lyncombe Hill. Our expert instructors will guide them through natural caverns and man-made spaces, telling them about the local geology in and around the Mendip Hills. They will talk of the Sandford Levy Home Guard Auxiliary Unit that was stationed there during the Second World War and show the children the bunks that still exist from all those years ago. The children will experience what it's like to be in cave, the sights, the sounds, the flora and fauna. - A great introductory session to the this hidden underground world.
Our orienteering or navigation sessions give children the skills to use and read a map, developing their resilience and self sufficiency in this ever dependant digital world.
BTEC Level 2 Sports Certificate /
Diploma in Outdoor Education
Mendip is the go-to provider for collecting practical evidence for the range of Level 2 and Level 3 sport BTEC qualifications. Our activity sessions provide the perfect setting for candidates to collect evidence towards their qualifications. Whether climbing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, skiing, orienteering or caving; our sessions provide learners with the opportunity to review and improve their performance, under the watchful eye of our team, whilst you carry out their assessment.
Team building / induction activity days
Whether you have a new intake of year 7 students, or a class of pupils that just arenít bonding together as a team, our team building activity days are perfect for your group. Our activities and events are deliberately designed to illustrate all the elements of effective teamwork. Inspiring teams through active experimentation and hands-on challenges. In addition to instructing the activities our trained co-ordinators will help develop team awareness through informal group discussions and reviews. Most importantly this will be achieved in a safe and supportive environment.
End of year activity days & secondary enrichment days
Looking for an exciting day to treat your class for great attendance, hard work, or a post-SATS reward? Organising a secondary school enrichment week and looking for some exciting new activities for your students to learn? Our activity days are the perfect option for you! Our fully qualified instructors can deliver a bespoke programme of activities for small groups, classes, year groups or the enture school. Talk to our team about any specific themes you would like to include in your programme and we will come up with a bespoke package of activities to meet your needs.
GCSE activity embedded revision days
Our GCSE activity embedded revision days provide students with the perfect environment to revise for their exams. We give the students a balance of fun outdoor activity sessions and structured indoor revision space to keep them focused when it matters and motivated to learn. Our outdoor activities are carefully spaced out throughout the day to minimise the effects of cramming, keeping the students fresh and more likely to take on what they are learning.
