British Canoeing Paddlesport Leader Training

A two day course where you complete your Paddlesport Leader Training.

Location
This is TBC. We will contact you nearer the time. It will most likely take place on th Exe, Teign or Dart. We may be able to provide transport from Mendip Activity Centre.

Who is this for?
Anyoned aged 14+ can take part in this course. There are no formal Personal Performance Award or Safety Award requirements to becoming a Paddlesport Leader. However, to get the best from your course you need to feel comfortable in or on your craft and be able to independently paddle on sheltered water. Book onto a course with Mendip here . Please note that there is a minimum requirement of 4 participants. If we do not have 4 people booked onto a course, we will contact you to rearrange.

How do I book?
1. Choose your number of participants and then use the date selector to find the date.
2. Once you have booked onto our course you will need to become a British Canoeing Member at the following address: https://members.britishcanoeing.org.uk/. Choose the "on the water" option.
3. Next, you will need to register for the course on the British Canoeing website before sending British Canoeing Membership Number to info@mendip.co.uk

Course content
This award is open to all paddlers to enable you to improve fun, safe and enjoyable trips. You will paddle on kayaks, canoes and paddleboards and cover the designing of a journey, safely managing a journey and some rescue skills.

The Paddlesport Leader Assessment is the assesment day to this course.

What should I bring to the course?
Please bring your preferred craft and your normal paddling kit. Please get in touch if you would like to use our equipment. You are extremely likely to get wet so wear appropriate clothes and bring a spare pair of clothes and a towel. If you own a wet suit or a dry suit, we recommend bringing this.

Funding
If you are a member of a canoe club, you may be entitled to some support from them or from British Canoeing. Contact the treasurer of your club or the Paddlesport Development Officier for your region.
