2 hour abseil session in our private rocksports limestone quarry, Sandford Quarry.

How does it work?

The exhilaration of hanging your life on a rope is immense. Abseiling requires no skill, little effort and no prior experience, the real challenge is in the mind. You're guaranteed a thrilling mix of emotions - and afterwards, an uncontrollable urge to do it all again. This abseil is around 20 metres high.

Your instructor will brief you, ensure your harness and helmet is fitted correctly and explain the whole process and ensure your complete safety and wellbeing throughout the session. A second rope is always used and controlled by your instructor, so you can't go wrong!

No previous experience required! All safety equipment is provided and our fully qualified instructors will guide you through the experience, ensuring your safety and wellbeing.

Who is this activity for?

These activities are suitable for anyone aged eight or over. You have the option to book individual spaces on this session or, if no spaces have sold, you can book the session exclusively for your group of up to 10 people by selecting the "Private group" option.

If you want to take part in a more extreme abseil, check out our 150 foot (around 50 metre) abseil which can be booked here.

Where do we go?

This session takes place in Sandford Quarry, our beautiful disused limestone quarry a few minutes drive from the main centre. This is the perfect venue for outdoor rock climbing, but like most outdoor locations the facilities are basic. Between April and October there are portaloos. You are welcome to drive into the quarry but the access track is uneven so please drive slowly and take care as you drive into the quarry at your own risk. If you prefer to park on Quarry Road and walk up to the quarry please park courteously and do not block driveways.

Staying with us at Mendip Basecamp campsite? The walk down into the quarry is stunning and this map shows the route.

Your instructor will be waiting for you on the lowest tier of the quarry in the area pinned on google maps here

Where possible, we will get you onto the toboggan slope as soon as possible once you arrive. We will try to be as accommodating as possible and if there is availability later in the day, we will move your session to a later start time however please be aware that this is not always possible.

We are likely to be able to change your start time at arrival as long as it is within our opening hours and on the same day.

Private session

Individual spaces on a session

We will do our best to fit you into the session at a point that does not disrupt it too much for other participants. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we're sorry but it is very unlikely we will be able to fit you into the session due to missing the safety and equipment briefing and kit up.
