It introduces simple strategies and practical safety techniques to help you manage common situations that arise on moving water.The course is designed to give paddlers confidence and understanding when paddling as part of a group or with peers on grade 2/3 rivers.

Who can take part in the Introduction to White Water Safety course?
This course is suitable for paddlers aged 16+ with previous paddling experience. You should already be confident paddling on sheltered water before attending.You may find the Paddle Explore and Paddlesport Safety and Rescue courses helpful preparation.
How does the Introduction to White Water Safety course work?
During this practical river based course you will explore strategies and techniques that help paddlers deal with common situations on moderate white water.The day includes:
- Understanding motivations and decision making on the river
- Clothing and equipment considerations
- Reading and understanding the white water environment
- Preparing for a paddling trip
- Swimming techniques in moving water
- Choosing how to help a swimmer

Where does the Introduction to White Water Safety course take place?
This course takes place on suitable rivers in South West England depending on conditions, most commonly around Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley.Exact venue details will be confirmed after booking.
