This three hour session acts as an exciting introduction to underground exploration!
What is Caving?
The Mendip Hills contain the largest underground cave network in the UK. Caving is all about exploring these incredible hidden environments. In Goatchurch Cavern you will journey through maze-like passages with climbs, squeezes and fascinating rock features, making it a brilliant adventure for intrepid explorers.How does a Caving session work?
You will meet your instructor at the Goatchurch Cavern car park, where parking is free. We will provide you with a boiler suit, helmet and head torch. We have wellies available to borrow or you may bring your own. Your instructor will tailor the experience to your group's ability and pace to ensure your adventure is safe, enjoyable and unique to you.Where does this Caving activity take place?
This session takes place in Goatchurch Cavern in Burrington Combe, just 15 minutes from Mendip Activity Centre. Burrington Combe is part of the Mendip Hills National Landscape and is one of the most spectacular natural locations in the South West.Who can take part in a Caving session?
Caving can be booked in the following ways:- Individual spaces (Age 8+)
- Exclusive Private Group for up to 10 people (Ages 6+). If you book this option we can relax the child age restriction to 6+, provided at least one participating adult (18+) is present.
Important Information!
- Caves are cold and damp, remaining at a constant 11 degrees all year round. Wear warm, comfortable old clothing that you do not mind getting muddy or damp and bring a spare jumper for when you emerge.
- Dogs cannot join you inside the cave.
- No food or drink is taken into the cave. Please ensure you eat something up to an hour before your trip to give you energy.
