Paddle Explore Award

A two-day Paddle UK personal skills course designed for paddlers to gain confidence on the water and become independent in Kayaking, Canoeing, or Paddle Boarding.


When are the next available courses?
  • 26th-27th July 2025 – Paddle Boarding
  • 16th-17th August 2025 – Kayaking
  • 20th-21st September 2025 – Canoeing

    • Where does the course take place?

    This course will take place at a watersports venue near Mendip Activity Centre in Somerset, likely to be the River Avon. The exact venue will be confirmed upon booking. Please note, no transport is provided.

    Are there any pre-requirements?

    Whilst there are no formal pre-requisites for this course, candidates might find it useful to first attend a Mendip Try Kayaking, Try Canoeing, or Try Paddle Boarding session, followed by a Paddle Discover one-day course.

    What's included in the Paddle Explore Award?
    As part of the course, you will learn:
  • On-the-water etiquette and how to share the space with other water users
  • Different environments you can paddle (lakes, rivers, canals, estuaries)
  • Controlling your kayak, canoe, or SUP safely
  • Clothing and equipment needs for different environments and weather
  • Safe exploration
