What is the Paddlesport Instructor course?
The Paddle UK Paddlesport Instructor course is a combined training and assessment qualification designed for those who want to introduce beginners to paddlesports. It enables you to deliver fun, safe and engaging sessions in stable craft such as Kayaks, Canoes and Stand Up Paddle Boards.Who can take part in the Paddlesport Instructor course?
This course is suitable for anyone aged 16+ who wants to begin instructing paddlesports. You must have completed the Paddlesport Safety and Rescue course before attending.There is no formal prerequisite skills award, however the following awards can be useful preparation: Candidates must also hold Full Membership of Paddle UK (formerly British Canoeing).
How does the Paddlesport Instructor course work?
This two day course combines training and assessment. You will learn how to plan and deliver beginner paddlesport sessions, manage groups safely on the water and create fun learning experiences for new paddlers.During the course you will learn:
- How to kit up a group and get everyone afloat safely
- Activities and games that support learning
- Using mini journeys to explore the environment
- How to manage and keep your group safe on the water
Where does the Paddlesport Instructor course take place?
The course takes place at a suitable watersports venue close to Mendip Activity Centre in Churchill, such as Cheddar Reservoir or Clevedon Marine Lake. The exact venue will be confirmed upon booking.Please note that transport is not provided.

- The assessment is included within the two days of the course.
- This qualification is recognised by many outdoor activity centres and allows you to deliver beginner paddlesport sessions.
- You will receive joining instructions after booking. Please read these carefully and get in touch if you have any questions.

- Centre specific equipment will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own equipment if you prefer.
