Abseiling
A two-hour 20m abseiling session in Sandford Quarry
Abseiling is the controlled descent off a vertical drop using a rope. Abseiling is very popular, requires no skill, little effort and no prior experience. The real challenge is in the mind and getting yourself over the steep edge and placing your trust in the equipment. Once you've finished you'll be running straight back up super excited about doing another one! The Abseil on this session is around a 20m/65ft drop.
Feeling even braver? - then click here to book our even bigger abseil (50m/150ft)!
How does it work?
Your instructor will brief you, ensure your harness and helmet is fitted correctly and fully explain the Abseil process. A second rope is always used and controlled by your instructor who will guide you throughout your descent experience, always ensuring your safety & wellbeing. Aside from a massive adrenaline rush, Abseiling offers fantastic mental and physical challenges and the sense of achievement.
Where does it take place?
Abseiling takes place at our private limestone quarry,Sandford Quarry, which is situated close to the main site of Mendip Activity Centre:
- You can drive into the quarry. The instructor will meet you in the main tier of the quarry. The access track is uneven so drive slowly and at your own risk.
- You may park just outside and walk into the quarry. However, Quarry Road is a public road so park courteously and do not block residents driveways.
- If staying with us on our campsite the walk down into the quarry is simply stunning and on a clear day has far reaching views across the Bristol Channel and over to Wales.
