Snowsport Courses

Whether you're planning a ski holiday, looking to learn a new skill or want to find a new way to spend time with friends and family whilst in the Great Outdoors, this ski course is for you!

Designed to take you from complete beginner to competent skier in just 5 lessons, our ski course has everything you need to build your confidence and practice your skills so that you're looking great on the slopes in no time.

This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 8.

Once you purchase either a ski or snowboard course you will be sent a personalised gift voucher with a set of 5 voucher codes. You can then use these to book your lessons online, choosing dates and times that suit you.

We recommend starting out by booking your Try Skiing/Try Snowboarding (depending on which course you purchase) and your 1 Star lesson. After these lessons, we strongly recommend booking your lessons as you go.

Our easy online booking system means that you have full control over when you choose to have lessons and can make a plan that suits you.

The first lesson in both our ski and our snowboard course is a 'Try' session - a 90 minute, fun introductory lesson for total beginners.

If you can't decide, why not try both to begin with and see which you prefer the feel of. Once you've mastered one, there's nothing stopping you trying the other!

Not at all. Equipment hire is always included in all of our costs, including helmet hire!

You wont need any of your own specialist equipment to take part in our course. You just need to dress for the weather in comfortable trousers, warm layers, full length sleeves and pair of full fingered gloves

The only other potential cost is if more than one lesson needs to be repeated however you'll receive a 50% discount on our standard pricing if this does happen.

Our snowsport courses are valid for 18 months from the date you purchase! Once you start learning, we would recommend visiting fairly regularly just to make sure your last lesson is still fresh in your mind but ultimately it is up to you!

Once you have completed your 4 star lesson, you have completed our course! This means you are now ready to ski on our slope without an instructor present. We call this 'recreational skiing' and to get you started we include a FREE day pass to come and use the slope as a Recreational skier whenever you like! This is a great way to practice your skills and find your style as a solo skier.

If you enjoy your day on the slope, we also offer annual passes which allow you to come and use the slope as a recreational skier whenever the slope is open! There are no hidden costs and your equipment hire is all still included for every visit. Another benefit of your course is that, if you choose to purchase an annual pass, you get this at HALF PRICE which makes it unbeatable value for a full year of unlimited skiing!

To keep you improving, we also run a series of informal, drop in sessions designed as a recreational ski with an expert instructor also skiing the slope with you! Receive extra pointers and advice in an informal setting:

- A Ski Sunday Session
- A Friday Night, Ski with the Instructor session

Once you have completed the course, our Customer Service team can get you booked in for any of these free sessions whenever best suits you.

Our digital course card system means that your instructor can leave feedback so if you have a different instructor on your next lesson, they will be able to pick up where you left off.

The actual content of each session can be found by clicking on the individual sessions on our activity planner. In terms of the timings of each session, here is a rough breakdown...

You are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of your session so that you can fill in any relevant paperwork, make sure you are wearing the correct clothing, and head into the kit room ready for the instructor.

Kitting up and de-kitting time is included in the lesson as it is an important part of the learning process. You will be taught how to kit yourselves up safely, and how to remove your kit without damaging it. That whole process does get quicker as you progress through our course, but it can still take up to 45 minutes depending on the age and size of your group. A debrief is also included in the lesson time, where the instructor will advise the group on what lesson they should book next.
Based on all of this, we expect participants to have between 75-90 minutes on the slope for our 2 hour sessions, and between 45-60 minutes for our 1.5 hour group sessions.

Snowsport FAQ's

No. We cannot allow teaching on our slope by anyone other than our qualified, employed and insured instructors. We will ask your whole party to leave the slope if seen to be teaching someone who cannot ski or snowboard.

Not for lessons but if you are just using our slope for recreational skiing or snowboarding, you are welcome to bring your own kit. However, Mendip cannot accept responsibility for any damage caused by our slope. Equipment hire is always included in the cost so we would always recommend using our ski's and boards but you are welcome to bring your own boots, helmets and pads if you prefer. There is no discount available for bringing your equipment.

We have lessons on in the evenings, every weekend and throughout the school holidays at times to suit everyone. We put on as many lessons as we can. We are constantly reviewing where the demand is and will always try and flex our schedule to get certain levels in if required.

You have full control over booking your own lessons with our online booking system. You can view all of our availability by clicking 'SNOWSPORTS' in the grey menu bar. Feel free to have a scroll through our calendar before purchasing a snowsport course, we are sure there will be lessons at times that suit you, whatever your schedule!

Something comfy! You definitely don't need anything special and we strongly advise against salopettes and proper ski jackets! A pair of joggers or leggings are ideal as they give you plenty of movement (avoid jeans whenever possible) and loose layers that will keep you warm but that you can easily remove if you start getting warm. If it's raining, we'll still go ahead with lessons so a set of waterproofs is always a good idea.

As long as you are warm and comfortable, have your legs and arms covered, and you have a pair of gloves, you are good to go!

All of our activities, sessions and lessons do need to be booked in advance. Everything can be booked online, via our website.

All of our snowsport lesson times include kit up and de-kit so you just need to arrive 5 - 10 minutes before your session time to check in and complete some paperwork.

It is really tricky to tell what level lesson would be suitable for you if you have previous experience as it will be different for everyone. We would recommend booking a private lesson so our instructors can coach and advise which level of group lesson is best for you.

Our group ski and snowboard lessons will only ever have a maximum of 8 people per instructor.

Private lessons can have up to 8 people (age 8+).

Minis group lessons will have a maximum of 4 people per instructor. Minis private lessons are for a maximum of 2 people (ages 5 - 8).

All slope users must wear a helmet whilst on the slope. We always include helmet hire at no additional charge. Gloves must be worn whilst on the slope, please bring these with you or they are available for purchase onsite.

Group lessons are a great way to learn and are the most cost-efficient way to learn, especially with our Learn to Ski and Learn to Snowboard courses.

If you decide group lessons aren't for you, we also offer private snowsport lessons. Click here for private ski lessons and click here for private snowboard lessons.
