What is the Introduction to White Water Paddleboarding Course?
This course is designed for paddleboarders who want to transfer existing flat water SUP skills into a white water environment. By the end of the day, you will have the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to take on simple white water journeys independently.Who can take part in the Introduction to White Water Paddleboarding Course?
This course is suitable for paddleboarders who are already confident paddling on flat water. You should be comfortable performing a controlled capsize and self rescue before attending.How does the Introduction to White Water Paddleboarding Course work?
Using classic South West rivers, our experienced and highly qualified coaches will build on your existing SUP skills as you learn to paddle on moving water. During a scenic river journey, you will develop control, awareness and confidence while tackling class 1 and 2 white water.The day includes:
- Learning how to read the river
- Developing SUP handling skills on moving water
- Understanding shuttling and river logistics
- Choosing appropriate clothing and equipment
- White water safety and rescue fundamentals
Where does the White Water Paddleboarding Course take place?
This course takes place on the River Dart in Devon, paddling from Buckfastleigh to Staverton. This is a classic stretch of class 1-2 white water, ideal for introducing moving water skills in a beautiful setting.Important Information!

- All centre-specific equipment is provided. If you have your own suitable gear, you are welcome to bring it along.
- The meeting point is Dyno Climbing Centre, Old Totnes Road, Buckfastleigh TQ11 0NF.
- Free parking is available if you purchase drinks from the cafe, which is open from 10am to 9.30pm.
