British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor

A two day course where you will gain your Paddlesport Instructor qualification.

16th and 17th January 2024
23rd and 24th January 2024

This is TBC. We will contact you nearer the time. It will take place at venues in Somerset potentially including Hewish Watersports Centre, Clevedon Marine Lake and the River Yeo.

Who is this for?
Anyone aged 14+ can take part in this course. You must have completed your British Canoeing Paddlesport Safety & Rescue certificate before attending this course. Book onto a course with Mendip here . Please note that there is a minimum requirement of 4 participants. If we do not have 4 people booked onto a course, we will contact you to rearrange.

How do I book?
1. Choose your number of participants and then use the date selector to find the date.

Course content
This is the key qualification used by outdoor activity centres, organisations and clubs for introductory paldding sessions. You will cover play on kayaks, canoes and paddleboards and cover:
-Preparing a group
-Choosing and fitting equipment
-Games, activities and tasks
-Mini journeys to inspire exploration
-Basic coaching and paddling skills
-Top tips to fix common challenges
-Reflection and development

What should I bring to the course?
Please bring your preferred craft and paddling kit. Please get in touch if you would like to use our equipment. You are extremely likely to get wet so wear appropriate clothes and bring a spare pair of clothes and a towel. If you own a wet suit or a dry suit, we recommend bringing this. Please bring evidence of your Paddlesports Safety & Rescue certificate to the course.

If you are a member of a canoe club, you may be entitled to some support from them or from British Canoeing. Contact the treasurer of your club or the Paddlesport Development Officier for your region.
