Try Canoe
What is open canoeing?
Canoeing is a popular water sport that involves paddling a canoe - an open deck lightweight boat with a flat bottom - on lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water. It's a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, exercise, connect with nature and enjoy the simple act of paddling.
How does it work?
You'll meet your instructor at our private water sport site with it slow-flowing water and gentle currents. Here you'll get kitted out in the required equipment including a properly fitted buoyancy aid for safety. Your instructor will show you how to get the most out of your canoe in the open water including proper paddle grip and basic stroke techniques - forward, backward, turning and practice maintaining a straight course.
Where does it take place?
Canoeing takes place a 20 minute drive away from the main Mendip Activity Centre at our private and rural Hewish Activity Site. Located on Wick Road, just off the A370, near J21 of the M5. There is no postcode so coming off the A370, the marked gateway is on your right, just 100 metres past the RCH Brewery and just before the motorway bridge. Drive carefully and slowly on the gravel access track for 400 metres until you reach the Activity Site Car Park. Your Canoeing Instructor will meet you there shortly before your start time.
