Stand up Paddle Boarding
What is Stand Up Paddle Boarding?
Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is an outdoor water sports activity where a rider stands up on a large board and uses a single bladed paddle to move through the water. A leash attaches the rider to the board, preventing it from drifting away. SUP provides a full-body workout, engaging muscles in the arms, shoulders, and back. It improves balance, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness with the constant balancing also targeting your leg muscles and core stabilizers. It's also a unique way to connect with nature and being on the water, which promotes relaxation and reduces stress.
How does it work?
You'll meet your instructor at our private water sport site with it slow-flowing water and gentle currents. Here you'll get kitted out in the required equipment including a properly fitted buoyancy aid for safety. We don't use wetsuits for our SUP sessions but you are welcome to wear your own. Lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing is ideal. Quick-drying materials are helpful if you get splashed. For footwear we recommend old trainers, daps or water shoes. Remember to bring a change of clothing and footwear. Pretty much anyone can learn the basics of SUP and your instructor will show you how to get the most out of your Paddleboard in the open water including proper paddle grip and basic stroke techniques - forward, backward, turning and practice maintaining a straight course.
Where does it take place?
Paddle Boarding (SUP) sessions take place a 20 minute drive away from the main Mendip Activity Centre at our private and rural Hewish Activity Site. Located on Wick Road, just off the A370, near J21 of the M5. There is no postcode so coming off the A370, the marked gateway is on your right, just 100 metres past the RCH Brewery and just before the motorway bridge. Drive carefully and slowly on the gravel access track for 400 metres until you reach the Activity Site Car Park. Your instructor will meet you there shortly before your start time.
